Thrift Haul #1

Updated: Oct 30, 2025

Let's face it, this was not actually my first thrift haul, just the first one I've recorded since deciding to start this business. I've been addicted to thrift stores, yard sales, consignment stores, antique malls, and the like, for a very, very, very long time. I'm remembering a place near my alma mater where we always shopped for outfits for my sorority theme parties.

I'm excited that Thrifts and Threads in Providence Forge VA has combined their two locations and moved into a bigger space near the Food Lion! Although it will be harder to avoid the thrift store now that it is close to my grocery store. On my first visit, I nabbed several great finds. I'll harvest the hardware off the souvenir purse to use in future bag projects. I plan to embellish 2 of these lampshades (but I bought 3 so I'd have options) and add to the two cute farm-themed lamps. I'm seeing a bag or a Winter Gnome (or both) made from the worsted wool plaid skirt. The monogrammed cushions will be recovered as remembrance gifts. Khaki pants and ribbon are useful for lots of projects yet to be determined.

Like most thrift stores, Thrifts and Threads has a discounting scheme on the clothing. On a prominent sign near the entrance, they name which tag color will get you 50% off. Another level of discount, that is not posted but that their friendly staff will tell when asked, is that items with the tag from the previous week 50% off, now is $1. I've never seen the white tags, usually on outerwear or suits, included in this rotation.
