Re-used wool sweater purse

Project Type

Purse

Date

After my uncle passed away, my auntie gave some of his clothes to my husband and me. I selected two wool pullover vests. Fast-forward a few years and, browsing on Etsy, I stumbled upon a sewing pattern designer, Charlie's Aunt, whose retro style really appealed to me. I could also envision reusing thrifted clothing in her designs. This is my interpretation of her Walberswick Small Cross-Body Bag.
When I sat down to figure out fabrics I wanted to use for this project, I thought of those wool sweaters. I found another wool sweater and a yard+ of the tweed fabric (purchased at a thrift store, of course!) and set to making this purse. I ended up using the pocket and some fabric from a pair of khaki pants for the liner--ready made pocket!
